PATA CEO outlines cause for optimism

This article is quoted from the newsletter PATAnews from PATA . The article was originally published on 2009-05-13.

PATA chief Greg Duffell is praising the efforts of Asia Pacific destinations in seeking to stimulate domestic and international travel as the global economic recession continues to bite. He will tell delegates at the IATA PaxIS 09 Forum in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow (Thursday) that the efforts of national governments and state tourism authorities are helping to offset the inevitable downturn in business and leisure travel. Before leaving Bangkok for Kuala Lumpur, Greg Duffell stressed that ‘there are business opportunities to be seized and the really smart operators are investing now in readiness for the green shoots of recovery that we expect to see next year’.
“Whilst we are witnessing a real battle for market share across the region we are also seeing benefits from incentives offered by airports, the further development of open skies policies and some creative sales and marketing from the retail and hospitality sectors,” he added.
