Indigenous Tourism & Biodiversity Website Award Voting Opens

Voting begins in January for the 2010 Indigenous Tourism and Biodiversity Website Award .

The Indigenous Tourism and Biodiversity Website Award is a collaborative effort between and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) with them generous support of the Heidehof Foundation.

The award is aimed at private tourism services, owned and operated by indigenous and local communities embodying traditional lifestyles, and its main objectives are to motivate candidates to improve their online communication on biological and cultural diversity, to highlight their best
practices in managing tourism in a biodiversity-friendly way and to raise operators and public’s awareness on biodiversity.

Winners will receive the award in April 2010 at the Reisepavillon tourism trade fair in Berlin, Germany. On this occasion, GTZ, Stattreisen Hannover (the organizers of the Reisepavillon), and leading German tourism trade associations will collaborate to assist winners to meet with leading
operators and agents dedicated to sustainable tourism. Winners will also be invited to a face-to-face workshop on innovative Web tools for marketing, facilitated by founder and award organizer Ron Mader.
