Views On Tourism on the sustainable tourism potential in Bangladesh and the role of a tourism policy

Tourism is actually not defined as an industry, but an activity. This activity may best be conceived of as an interrelated system, understood as an assemblage of combination of things or parts forming a complex or unitary role.
The presence of tourism in any destination always brings with it environmental and socio-cultural as well as economic impacts. This is why tourism internationally is often praised as an effective development tool, especially in rural areas and the developing world. A sustainable tourism strategy will have a major positive impact in Bangladesh – but how can this be achived?

This Views On Tourism presentation focus on the sustainable tourism potential in Bangladesh and the role of a tourism policy. Topics included in the presentation are: Introduction, National tourism status, Tourism development (General obstacles, Destination impact, Sustainable tourism and Bangladeshi tourism potential), How to become sustainable (New tourism management and Policy instruments and role) and Conclusion.

    Presentaion correction!

On slide number 33 ‘New tourism in Bangladesh’ regarding the role of all stakeholders, I mention Katalyst as an NGO. This is not true, Katalyst is a project.

This is how they describe themself online http://www.katalyst.com.bd/

“Katalyst is considered to be one of the most successful market development projects in the world. Since 2003 Katalyst has achieved significant jobs and income impact by increasing the competitiveness of micro, small and medium sized enterprises in selected urban and rural sectors. Katalyst follows a pro-poor, market development approach in promoting economic growth. We focus on sectors with high growth potential in terms of jobs, productivity, and profitability, and where there are other strategic economic considerations (such as export potential). Katalyst partners with a wide range of private and public sector organizations in order to leverage our resources and maximize impact.”
