Bangladeshi tourism
Bangladesh is still one of the countries in the South Asian region with the least arrivals and the lowest revenue earned from the tourism industry, but the national tourism has since the 1990s been a small but rapidly growing sector of the economy. In the last years the country has several times attracted international recognition of its tourism potential:
2007: Sundarbans and Cox’s Bazar two national destinations became candidates in Worldwide New7Wonders of Nature campaign
2008: Lonely Planet nominated Bangladesh as one of the top 10 interested countries 2009 and also published their 6th edition of their tourist guidebook ‘Bangladesh’.
2009: Bradt Travel Guide published 1.st edition of their tourist guidebook ‘Bangladesh’.
2009: Sundarbans was nominated one of the 28 Official Finalist Candidates in Worldwide New7Wonders of Nature campaign
2010: Bangladesh was nominated Number One Best Value Destination for 2011 by Lonely Planet.
2011: The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup was played in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. It was Bangladesh’s first time co-hosting a World Cup.
2011:Sundarbans was nominated one of the top 14 Official Finalist Candidates in Worldwide New7Wonders of Nature campaign, but did not make it to the final Worldwide New7Wonders of Nature.
2012: The year of updated guide books: Bradt Travel Guide published 2ed edition of their tourist guidebook ‘Bangladesh’ and Lonely Planet published their 7th edition of their tourist guidebook ‘Bangladesh’.
Bangladesh’s first crowdsourced travel photography project was launced under the name Positive Light.
2014: The quality British national newspaper The Guardian newspaper has selected Bangladesh as a top 2014 destination.

Who are the Bangladeshi tourism stakeholders?
One of the goals of the Views On Tourism project is to facilitate networking and cooperation among national, regional and international players – but before cooperation is possible players need know of each other’s existence. It is not always easy to get an overview at the multiple stakeholders related to the Bangladeshi tourism sector and a sustainable industry development; this was the reason for The Views On Tourism Project to initiate the creation of a national tourism industry overview. The target is to build an online accessible introduction to important and professional Bangladeshi tourism stakeholders’, which hopefully will increase national and international interaction and sustainable development initiatives.

How to add important national tourism players to this BD tourism overview
To become a part of the BD tourism overview, gather the requested data below and send it to Views On Tourism at info@viewsontourism.info

To create an effective overview, which does not require constantly update on minor detail changes, the following data is being gathered: tourism sector category, name of tourism player, logo (jpg), webpage address, a short description of the tourism player (maximum 100 words!) and a public LinkedIn profile (only 1 profile pr. introduction!). The ‘BD tourism’ overview is mainly focusing on the following categories: Association, Information, Conservation, Higher Education and Public Authorities. The categories and players are chosen by Views On Tourism, but readers are kindly requested to assist with data input and corrections.
